The Visa international payment system is considering allowing its cardholders to buy and sell cryptomurses. This is only in countries where this is not contrary to local legislation. This new possibility is possible thanks to a partnership with a neo bank First Boulevard in the United States.
« Our strategy here is to interact with wallets and cryptographic exchanges to enable users to purchase these currencies using their Visa credentials in countries where it is not against local laws, » the company’s press office said.
The statement refers to one of the main segments of the cryptocurrency industry: that of traditional currencies (Bitcoin and Co.), used as assets and as an investment tool. There is also that of fiat-backed digital currencies, including stable coins, and digital central bank currencies. Visa is convinced of the potential of the latter as a means of payment.
Visa’s announcement follows that of its rival Mastercard, which announced last week that it would start allowing customers to make payments in certain crypto-currencies on its network this year.
